Fuel Prices To Go Up In December – IES

The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has projected the rise in the price of fuel on the domestic market in December.

According to the Institute, the sharp increase is as a result of the 11.5% increase in prices of International Benchmark- Brent crude, the 6.94% inrease in prices of Gasoline, the 7.26% incease in Gasoline prices and the stability of the local currency.

Also, the Institute said another reason for the increase increase is attributable to the renewed hopes of a COVID-19 vaccine following other announcements by major vaccine producers within the period.

Below is the full statement

FUEL PRICES TO GO UP IN DECEMBER

REVIEW OF NOVEMBER SECOND PRICING-WINDOW

Local Fuel Market Performance

Prices of fuel on the local market remained stable within the window under review. Prices of petroleum products within the second Pricing-window of November 2020 saw majority of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) maintaining prices of Gasoline and Gasoil. The current national average price of fuel per litre at the pump is pegged at GHc 4.61

For this Pricing-window, Zen Petroleum, Benab Oil, Star Oil and Alinco Oil sold the lowest price per litre of Gasoline and Gasoil at the pump according to IES Market-Scan.

World Oil Market

Brent crude price within the period saw an increase in average price with the commodity being sold at $45.49 per barrel mark representing an 11.5% increase from the previous window’s average price of $40.54 per barrel mark. The increase is attributable to the renewed hopes of a COVID-19 vaccine following other announcements by major vaccine producers within the period. The period also saw the loosening of restrictions in parts of europe that shored up prices for Brent. The seeming end to the US election drama also influenced the price of the Brent. Also, and more importantly, the hopes of an OPEC+ production cuts extension to at least the first quarter of 2021 saw a boost in bullish sentiments on the international market. The period recorded the highest price for the benchmark since early March this year, selling at $48.53 per barrel mark on Wednesday, 25th November 2020.

Finished products prices as monitored on Standard and Poor’s global Platts platform show an increase in the prices of Gasoline and Gasoil on the global fuel market. Gasoline saw a 6.94% increase in prices closing the period at $412.00 per metric tonne from an earlier price of $385.27 per metric tonne. Gasoil prices also increased by 7.26% closing trading at the end of the period at $389.25 per metric tonne from a previous figure of $362.89 per metric tonne.

Local Forex

Data collated by IES Economic Desk from the Foreign Exchange (Forex) market shows the Cedi maintaines its stability against the U.S. Dollar, still trading at an average price of Gh¢5.76 to the U.S. Dollar over the period.

ue to the 11.5% increase in prices of International Benchmark- Brent crude, the 6.94% inrease in prices of Gasoline, the 7.26% incease in Gasoline prices and the stability of the local currency; the Institute for Energy Security (IES) projects prices of fuel on the domestic market experiencing a sharp increase as we enter December 2020.

Mahama bodyguard wasn’t having voters ID on him, he mentioned his name wrongly – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) says the bodyguard of former President John Dramani Mahama Mr Tahiru Bombi Bakari was allowed to vote at the District Office Polling Station in Bole-Bamboi Constituency.

The Commission noted that this was after the Name Reference List Officer was able to trace his name in the Voters Register following several attempts due to Mr Tahiru not having his Voters ID Card on him and providing his name in a different sequence from that on the register.

This was after Mr Mahama had indicated that his security guard had voting challenges at the polling station earlier today, Monday, 7 December 2020.

Mr Mahama made a public complaint after casting his vote in the general election at the Bole District Office polling station in the Savanna Region that his bodyguard could not find his name in the voters’ list.

Mr Mahama told the media: “One of my security personnel, I registered here with him and during the exhibition, we checked his name was there. But we got here today and his name is not there and, so, I don’t know if it’s a generalised problem”.

But hours later, the former President posted on social media indicating that “the issue with my security officer has been resolved and he has voted”, while thanking the presiding officer for intervening.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has put out a public notice to that effect.

The public notice was made on the EC’s official social media page.

It read: “Our attention has been drawn to a news article of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, former President John Mahama, following an interview granted in Bole. In the said interview, the former President made the assertion that his bodyguard was not on the Voters Register and had not voted.

“The Commission takes note that former President Mahama has corrected this assertion”.

The notice continued: “The bodyguard, Mr Tahiru Bombi Bakari, voted at the District Office Polling Station in Bole-Bamboi Constituency. This was after the Name Reference List Officer was able to trace his name in the Voters Register following several attempts due to Mr Tahiru not having his Voters ID Card on him and providing his name in a different sequence from that on the register”.

I saw God after smoking weed – Elton John Insists

Elton John has insisted that he ‘saw God’ after smoking weed during a creative music session.

The singing legend, 73, has recalled one crazy night where he tripped out after smoking the drug while listening to electronic dance music.

The combination of the high running through his veins and the music beats running through his mind left the singer in a state of bliss.

This resulted in Elton seeing God before his eyes after being taken to a ‘higher place’.

Although the Rocket Man has been sober for several decades now, he is not shy about opening up on his past drug-fuelled nights.

The soundtrack which raised him higher than he had ever been was German dance album Trans-Europe Express by Kraftwerk.

Speaking about his ‘trip’ on his Apple Music series Rocket Hour, the musical genius admitted that it’s a record he will never forget.

The star explained: “I love that because it was the first record I ever heard that really sounded German as far as pop music went.

“I remember smoking a joint and listening to it on really loud speakers and I thought I saw God during that album.”

Although he can happily reminisce on the crazy nights he endured in the studio, Elton has come a long way since.

The iconic singer has been sober for over thirty years now, and often candidly opens up about how better his life has become since he made the decision to drop the booze once and for all.

Taking to Instagram last year, Elton shared a powerful sobriety update when he revealed that saying the words “I need help” out loud saved his life.

The star penned: “29 years ago today, I was a broken man.

“I finally summoned up the courage to say three words that would change my life: ‘I need help’.

“Thank you to all the selfless people who have helped me on my journey through sobriety. I am eternally grateful.”

The Your Song hit-maker recently celebrated his 73rd birthday in lockdown alongside his husband David Furnish.

I Don’t Care If 3Music Awards Collapses Because I Campaigned For NDC, That Won’t Be The End Of My Life – Sadiq Abdulai

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai Abu has taken a bold step to cement his political ambition.

Personally, I have been thinking about the repercussions on his 3Music Awards initiative for some time now after he publicly announced his political affiliation.

However, it appears Sadiq has a backup plan—so he is not thinking much about the effects on his venture which is in the developing stage.

He told ZionFelix in an interview on the ‘Uncut’ Show, that he doesn’t care if the award scheme collapses following his campaign for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The 3Music Awards boss stated that the collapse of the award scheme won’t be the end of his life. If this is not boldness, then what is it?

Sadiq, who has been a party boy at his constituency for a long time stressed that he is a risk-taker.

He added he is not afraid of taking risks—and he is ready to accept anything that may come his way.

Sadiq Abdulai Abu, who is currently a communication member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Creative Arts Sector, advised the youth in Ghana to take risks and do any legal thing on their hearts.

Old video of Samini criticizing celebrities who endorse political parties drops

An old video of Dancehall artiste, Samini, criticizing entertainers who endorse political parties clearly shows his sudden change of perspective.

Trending in the news was Samini’s Kpoyaka song which endorsed Nana Addo and the NPP party for a second term in office come December 7.

Earlier, Samini in a tweet claimed that he was in support of any leader that had the needs of the less privileged at heart.

Sharing a silhouette of Nana Addo with school kids in the middle as a reference to Nana’s Free SHS initiative, Samini asked his followers to vote Nana back into office because he is a leader with a great vision.

His tweet read, ” These are challenging times for the world. My voice, my vote will support Leadership that has empathy and serves to create a hopeful future for the next generation #Kpoyaka.”

SEE POST BELOW:

In his song, Kpoyaka, Samini spreads the message of how the current government under Nana Addo’s leadership has taken visionary steps towards ensuring a greater tomorrow.

Meanwhile, to prove that the internet never forgets, blogger and content creator Kwadwo Sheldon has dug out from the archives of the internet an old video of Samini speaking against entertainers involving themselves in politics.

Samini is heard in the video saying that in his opinion, as an influencer it was unhealthy to do that because he represents the masses.

He seemed uninterested in taking political sides because it has the tendency of causing a divide between fans and followers.

It is therefore upsetting that in an interesting turn of events he has taken to endorsing the NPP.

This has gotten fans insinuating that indeed the NPP had handsomely greased his palm to support them just as has happened with some celebrities in the past.
